I currently teach at Vilonia High School, where I have been since 2006. I teach Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry, and College Algebra, but previously taught Algebra II and Geometry. I also regularly tutor students taking Algebra II, Geometry, and Calculus. In the summer of 2006, I taught at the Arkansas Governor's School on the campus of Hendrix College in Conway. In 2009, I taught Algebra I in summer school at North Little Rock. Additionally, former students routinely contact me for help with their college math classes.
I earned my bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Lyon College in 2006, my Master's degree in Mathematical Sciences from UALR in 2009. In 2012, I achieved National Board Certification as a teacher of mathematics to adolescents and young adults. Additionally, I am licensed in Arkansas to teach English as a Second Language.
I held a variety of jobs prior to entering the field of education. After high school, I worked for five years moving furniture. At 23 years of age, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. I served four years, including two overseas deployments, and received an honorable discharge. After the Marines, I bought an eighteen wheeler and drove a truck until 1999. That year, my wife and I built a chicken house on our farm near Batesville and began raising chickens.
After graduating from Lyon College in 2006, we sold the farm. Now, I believe I finally found my place in the world. I love teaching and love kids!
For fun, I run. Every month, my wife and I participate in at least one endurance event. We run in races from 2 miles to marathons (26.2 miles). Last year, this led me to begin helping coach Vilonia's cross country team as a volunteer. I thoroughly enjoyed working with the kids in that capacity and will continue to do so as long as possible.
